Good afternoon everyone. Today I bring you the first of two second-line BattleMechs introduced by Clan Goliath Scorpion in 3055. Today we have the Thunderstrike. A spiritual descendent of the ancient Thunderbolt, this 2nd-line war machine will be a potent addition to their garrison forces. As always, feel free to comment and critique away.

==Overview:==
Shortly after Operation Revival began, the Khans of Goliath Scorpion conducted
a Clan-wide review of their toumen. This review became even more critical
when Ice Hellion launched their Furies campaign against the Clans remaining in
the Home Worlds.
The report was sobering: Goliath Scorpion relied upon aging equipment drawn
from Caches laid up in Nicolas Kerensky's day. And that equipment was slowly
wearing out, despite the best care their technicians could give it. Within a
decade--two, at the most--the majority of Clans second-line forces would need
a complete overhaul.
Meeting in closed session, the Khans discussed the design of a new series of
second-line BattleMechs. Determined to maintain a link with their past, the
Scorpions selected two old SLDF 'Mechs, the Thunderbolt and the Stalker, as
the basis of their new warmachines.
The Thunderstrike, derived from the ancient Thunderbolt, joined the Clan on 16
August, 3055.
==Capabilities:==
Scorpion scientists and engineers worked hand in hand with the Warrior caste
to create the Thunderstrike. Determined to maintain the spirit of the ancient
heavy 'Mech, the design team selected an array of weapons that matched its
predecessor: an Extended-Range Large Laser, three Extended-Range Medium
Lasers, two Machine-guns, a Long Range Missile 15-rack with Artemis IV, and a
Streak Short Range Missile 2-rack.
Pondering the tonnage freed up by the advanced and lightweight weapons, the
design team decided to both increase the speed of the 'Mech and decrease the
tonnage. In fact, the design team finally settled on a 40-ton MEDIUM 'Mech,
moving at speeds of more than 97 kilometers per hour. After placing 7 tons of
ferro-fibrous armor on the frame, they found they had two tons remaining,
which they used for a MASC (Myomer Acceleration Signal Circuitry) system,
giving the Thunderstrike burst capability of speeds close to 130 kilometers
per hour.
The 'Mech might possess only 64% of the originals thick armored hide, but it
could move half-again as fast (twice as fast with MASC engaged), packed a
greater punch, and cost just slightly more. As a second-line 'Mech, the
Thunderstrike pleased the Scorpion Khans. Ordered into immediate production,
the first production run of 50 units is scheduled to be delivered before the
start of the new year.
==Battle History:==
As a relatively new design, the Thunderstrike has not seen actual combat.
However, in trials among Scorpion Warriors, this 'Mech has proven it is a
serious contender on the battlefield. It may soon have the chance to prove
itself; rumors suggest that both Clan Ice Hellion and Star Adder have learned
of the Thunderstrike. Both Clans have allegedly already selected units with
which to battle for the new design in a Trial of Possession.
==Variants:==
The Thunderstrike 2 reduces the 15-rack to a 10-rack and removes the Streak
SRM-2 in order to add six jump jets to the chassis. It also replaces the twin
machine-guns and ammo for a pair of flamers. So far, this is the only variant
of the Thunderstrike in Scorpion service.
