Here's the situation.

The party has managed to capture two Union-class dropships, minus the crews.

HM says that it takes six people to operate a Union at full capacity.

However, the party only successfully recruited one person per dropship.

Could, hypothetically, a single person be enough to operate a dropship and get it from point A to point B?

Or would they need to try and recruit a full crew for anything to work?

Thanks.

Hmm interesting question. I think given thier nature they need a full or near full contigent of the 6 crew I would say that they probably work in shifts, so 3 or 4 at a time would be needed to pilot it, Pilot, Navigator, communications, and a engineer. everyone can probably do each job so again they have 2 resting and they rotate. There are a few things to consider.

1. Are they under a time crunch? (i.e. are they going to be attacked soon? or are they on a secured planet, with plenty of time? )

2. Assuming the former, how skilled are the people they got? If they are very skilled then they should be able to teach a couple people what to do, just enough to get them to the jump ship and land somewhere, where they can aquire a proper crew. If they are skilled, but novice, then get more trained people.

3. Assuming the latter, take your time and get a proper crew. Dropships are to expensive to lose to unnessary haste.

If he/she isn't going to fool those that recruited him/her (such as piloting that DropShip to a point "C" place of his/her choice), then yes.

HMAero I think provides for less than standard and more than standard crews. Additional crew personnel operate weapons and do maintenance from what I understand.
