As a DCMS player I'm disgusted. You want a crunchy XL engined design go all the way get the OMNI Owens.
The DCMS can't afford to give perfectly functional second line mechs replacements who are 2-3 times the cost of the mech it replaces. If you want a scout mech take an Ostscout or a Spider, don't splurge all these C-bills on a fragile 35 tonner.
Sure its fast, but even in 3050 8/12/8 is a sneeze. lots of things can out pace it in the XL light category. So that means you'll be hunting mainly light mechs of the 3025 variety with Non XL engines and this mech can't take the 2-4 of them that it'd have to face to be cost effective.

First off, it's a prototype. It's being tested. That's what the militaries do. Here's a new design, try it out. Also, the armor was upped by 3 tons. The firepower was increased, and the speed was improved. So, now all of a sudden this is a worse mech then the JR7-D? This could take down 2-3 JR7-D's. As for the plethora of other mechs that go 8/12/8. Spider, Ostscout, Dragonfly. I miss any? 8/12+?.. Locust, Dasher, Mercury, Mongoose, Cicada, Hermes, Hussar. I miss any? So as for outpacing it that's what 3 mech types? As for cost effectiveness, if it can replace 2-3 other mechs and still do the job, where's the downside?

Run it against Mega mek / another human player.
You'll find your Jenner JR7-X dies to older model jenners when outnumbered 2-1. 3-1 is the break even point roughly for $s.
Like I said the DCMS went the Owens with its upgraded Jenners. Plus, supposing this is being used by the sword of light as a scout mech. It will run up against the other hot shot fast mechs in 3050 which are the eight mechs that either match its ground speed or jump profile. Also, the slower scouts the Sword of Light will run into are the 3050 scout hunter models that are 6/9/6 and Wolfhound, PHX, GRF, et all.
Is it good yes. Is it worth building an XL variant of a design you already have one of. (the Owens) Is it worth it to further dilute your resources?
I can see it being an effective scout IF you wanted to spend that many c-bills. But, if a 3025 stock PHX can take it in a 1 on 1. Doesn't this mean its been a waste? Because as a 8/12/8 scout mech there are cheaper versions that won't tempt you to fight PHXs and Wolfhounds and the like which saves you mechs. Heck if we take a step back they're are many 8/12s that can do the same movement cheaper as well, and they usually come back/are easier to replace.

Heh. That is why we did a bit of redesigning with this one before putting it in our TRO.
Ours has nearly full armor, moves 7/11(14) and features the MRM tens and two standard medium lasers. It's mismatched against infighters, but I believe with a good pilot, those MRMs will put paid to enemy 'Mechs which are as poorly armored as the JR7-D.
Proper deployment is key. I don't trust MegaMek to properly test new designs. No offense, but it does not have the brains.

I am in agreement with Cent13, MegaMek is nice for the fun fight or two, but anything made in that computer system isn't likely to be worth it on the board game, that has been proven with a lot of the home made mechs that folks did up via the Mechwarrior games, then ported them over to the pen and paper and found out that a lot of the computer mechs are illegal in the actual REAL game.
So using MegaMek isn't a ringing endorsement to prove a mech designs worth or much of anything.
Each real life player is going to use the mechs differently and far more randomly then the computer could or would. It is better to find a human to play against on two to four map boards, rolling some dice and moving the mechs around. You will get more fun out of it and actually enjoy the overall time then sitting in front of a computer and pushing a mouse around.
Besides, I like to roll my own dice, that way if they don't give me the rolls I am hoping for, then I am the one who is at fault, not some random number generator. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Hehe Just for fun on the megamex note.
Take a Battlemaster 2d (most common davion varient) and pit it against 4 light mechs. In my experiance versus 4 stingers the Battlemaster will lose 4 out of 5 times. Its like the game tries to even the score with god like rolls for the computer (oh the stinger needs a 12 at long range, It then gets the 12, with a possible crit and then rolls another 12 for number of crits). That has happened to me so many times its annoying. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy". Which stands to reason that the game is not setup to follow the rules or to take into account that most players would not get that lucky.
Another reason I find a lot of the computer games annoying, the remove a lot of the human factor. Steel Panthers 2 is a great game, but against the computer you can normally beat it hands down, yet when played against a human player you are lucky to get a draw. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato
