Overview:
The Special Asteroid Support Force is composed of specially trained Marine forces that staff a number of installations throughout the Hyades Cluster. Ranging from stationary satellites to full battle stations, the SASF uses a number of different points to control and destroy enemies of the Taurian Concordat who attempt to punch through this last, and formidable, line of defense.
One of the principle forward defenses are fighter platforms. These bases, built on stable asteroids as well as artificial platforms, are usually lightly armed with some point defense systems. Where their power comes from is the Rockshark, multiple squadrons of the plane are held on standby with their marine pilots and gunners.
These small craft are weak compared to an aerospace fighter or Dropship, but when they swarm an enemy ship, they make for a very effective defense system.
Heavily armored and armed, the Rockshark has earned an almost mythical reverence within the TDF. With almost a full ton of armor, as well as a heavy structure, the Rockshark has been known to take significant hits and keep flying. Pilot and Gunner safety is also considered, with the cockpit also being fully enclosed with two days’ worth of life support, and a full ejection system. Pilots also have a small reserve of water and food in the cockpit for long patrols.
The heavy support laser mounted in the nose is a Concord Refractions LWS MkIII. Concord Refractions has been creating infantry weapons for over 400 years, using the wealth of materials in the Hyades Cluster. Their LWS MkIII is the equivalent of many other heavy support lasers, however, it is made close to where it is needed, and does have a slightly higher record of reliability then many other lasers out there. Since the Rockshark might go for years before an engagement, that extra reliability means the laser‘s reliability is a significant concern.
