Ok, for a story line that is pretty weak. Somehow I doubt tons of military and merc personnel would start handing over their precious military hardware at the spur of the moment for a little cash.

The story for MW:DA gets cheesier every time I read it. And this Devlin Stone character is a putz.

And what about the Clans? Other than Clan Diamond Shark, economics were never a big thing to them... so why didn't they just go and kill all these foolish IS Stravags?

So, at least we find out the end of the war, eh? Vic's siblings on each throne, Vic back in ComStar (Known for their longstanding love of all things Davion), and the WoBbies prepping for a massive Jihad. Well, at least Marik got to do something, finally.

That being said...

Let me get this straight. Mechwarriors all over the sphere, who have inherited multiple-generations of their ancestor's hard-earned mechs, who have just seen the 4th Succession War, the Clans, the reformation of the Star League, the FedCom Civil War, and the WoB Jihad, say, "Hey, we don't need weapons anymore. Lemme trade this old hunk of junk in for citizenship in a society that doesn't exist, rather than keep my Knighthood in House Fillintheblank."

Good gravy.

Help me, people. The weakness of it all, it blinds me so.

Hello there, I am new to posting here but I have viewed posts from time to time on this site over the past couple years.

I figured this is a safer place to express displeasure over the current situation in regards to the new timeline. I dont like it, and agree with whats been said above. One of the things I cant believe is the look of the mechs they have shown which are supposed to for game play. Its almost sad, I have shown my group of btech players and they all laugh, its our commen reaction. I mean go from an Axeman or a Warhammer to a Mining mech, ohh that thing is just brutal. There are too many things I dont like about this "new" battletech game to continue posting/ranting.

My one question is since I started playing real battletech in about 1996 I missed the clan invasion and the major shift that occured then. I wonder did people as a whole dislike the new direction or is the current reaction I see something not seen when the clans were introduced.

WOW! A new person who can type! I want to give you a hug (not to mention that you started one year after I did, we need more people my age around here!).

Welcome to the board first off!

Second off, you're right on all points. The game is going down the hill. I can't remember what you're question was so i'm going to post this and then edit. brb

Ok. Did people react badly to the Clans? YOU BETCHA! They hated em! LOL I'm a Clan Snow Raven fan myself (hence my handle), but there was a large block that didn't like the Clan Invasion. I think, personally, that it was an interesting idea, but badly handled. Some parts should have been redone, and Snow Raven should have gotten more press coverage. Others will answer too!

Raven!

Welcome aboard!

The Clans did, in fact, generate a goodly sized wellspring of distrust. However, they also came at a time when the Internet wasn't as ubiquitous as it is these days. Businesses didn't follow the net at ALL, and there weren't many gathering places.

ClanTech also had a plus side. It *did* bring in a lot of new players ... a LOT of new players ... and it was a major storyline shakeup.

Mind you, there are many people who see it as a DOWNside as well. One big thing is that the Clan invasion happened, like, rightafter the LosTech of 2750 was release in book form. A terrible shame. Right before you could get used to teh new toys, BAM, here're the Clans with even *better* toys, to catch you flat.

From there? Well, Stackpoole happened.

Mrf.

Still, all is not lost. We're hoping that Dark Ages goes the way of Fuzion (The Champions system attempt that rolled over and died), and it does seem to have a bad opening thusfar. Many old Battletech players aren't willing to go there, the Mechwarrior computer players aren't going to step over, as its just too foreign for them, leaving only the Mage Knight players, who have new Mage Knight toys to play with as well as Hero Clix.

My gut feeling is that it'll do fauir on launch, but nothing, NOTHING like HeroClix did, falter quickly, then die from a lack of sustained growth. DC HeroClix will cut it off at the knees.

But, who knows? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the whole world will come flocking to Devlin Stone and his storyline, and they'll look back at us older players as relics. Anything's possible.

Meanwhile, I should start working on my proposal for Battletech 3100, for FanPro, as a backup in case things go down in flames.

You do realize, Old Dog, that the story of Dark Ages WAS were FASA was going with the timeline originally, don't you? The only thing that Weismann and WizKids is doing to it is giving a combat dial to the miniatures...and MAYBE (this is pure speculation on my part, has not been confirmed by anyone) a makeover to some of the minis...

So, when you blast Dark Ages, you are not blasting the combat dial, but rather the future that BTech was intended to have, whether or not had FASA not gone the way of the dodo...

Do you have anything that might back up that statement?

I find it hard to believe that the story line I read is anywhere close to where FASA was going simply because it removes the nesessity to purchase some of the "older" available product (like the FMs and minis) as they wouldn't be needed in the "future" timeline.
