SWORD OF DAMOCLES
Dominant for centuries, House Davion has led the Federated Suns to greatness through brilliant and innovative leadership. The Federated Suns have carved a prominent swath through history: the Davions formed a military that rewrote modern warfare; created the New Avalon Institute of Science, giving the Inner Sphere its first technological renaissance in three centuries; and united the military might of the Federated Suns with the economic power of House Steiner, creating the vase star empire known as the Federated Commonwealth. But with such power comes corruption–and civil war is looming on the horizon.
BattleTech FIeld Manual: Federated Suns™ provides profiles on every Federated Suns regiment, including their loyalties, and provides special rules, new equipment and 'Mechs® unique to this powerful house. |

I got this expecting something similar to the House books, before I found the House book PDFs on CBT. This really doesn't tell you as much as it ought to. A brief glossing over of the history, followed by a short summary of the military. Then there's the unit listing; the listing itself and unit insignias were interesting, but too much time was spent on individual officers and not enough on unit history. A prelude to the FedCom Civil War, but it could have been more than that if it tried. |

I was disappointed by this book. The quality of the material is really slipshod, and the unit descriptions are more focused on the Katherine/Victor split than they are on telling you about the often long and glorious history of the units. This book is also the introduction of the RAC, about the most unbalancing item in the game since the TC/Pulse Laser combo, and none of the other new tech is really all that cool. |

For centuries, House Davion has been a military powerhouse. Now the Federated Suns is a waking giant. New mechs, new tech, and new warships are just the tip of the Davion iceberg. Deployment tables, Polymorphus Defense Zones, NAIS units, and the famous Cadres are all detailed here, as well as reports on the high-ranking officers in the Davion military. |
