Description: |
Incredible discoveries of ancient, long buried Star League records have uncovered dozens of BattleMech and vehicle designs thought lost to antiquity. Re-tooled for the 31st century, these blueprints have produced the latest and most effective weapons in the Inner Sphere's life-or-death struggle against the invading Clans.
BattleTech Technical Readout: 3058 provides illustrations, descriptions and game statistics for these classic units and for new Inner Sphere and Clan BattleMechs, including modular BattleMech designs featured in full color. Technical Readout: 3058 also offers a host of tanks, hovercraft, and other armored vehicles upgraded with the latest weapons and equipment. |

This is one of those books that falls into the good, bad and ugly categories.
The Good: Inner Sphere Omnis are introduced, and some of them are actually cool. Also, the Bushwacker. Most likely the best Mech in the book.
The Bad: Flawed production run. My copy has had most of the clan Mechs replaced with a bunch of the inner sphere ones, repeated. It's actually very annoying.
The Ugly: The artwork hurts. Alot. If you don't think so, look at the Bushwacker on the cover, and compare to the one inside. It's hideous.
For rules and designs, this is a great book. It shows the IS taking full advantage of new technology, and showcases many Clan oddities (Pirahna anyone?). However, the artwork lacks the coolness of the other readouts, and the missing pages bug the hell out of me. |

This is the first TRO where I first thought: ENOUGH! Too many new designs, too many XL engines (even in a lot of vehicles!), too many gauss rifles!
But, as I withdrew into older publications, I realised that this TRO is actually a very skilled compilation. Not of the new Field Manuals (Motown probably got 3058 mixed up with 3060 or 3067), but of a lot of old Source books. We have the Wolf's Dragoons vehicles, there are 'mechs from Rhonda Snord's Irregulars, The Invading Clans, etc.
This has leased new life and interest to this manual.
The illustrations, though actually probably the best after the lvl1 readouts, took the BT universe into a new bubbly-look direction (complete with huge laser barrels), something that I don't really enjoy. |

Despite being an era rarely played, somw of these mechs are real bitches, the vehicles are good as well. Nice art work on alot of them and even a few more clan mechs.
Alot of the mechs are easily compatible with level one rules too. Some of the TRO's are a bit thin on the ground, this one is a nice size with plenty to read up on! |

Don't believe Motown, there's no clan vehicles in this book, only some Inner Sphere ones. Overall, this is a fine piece of work, although most of the 'mech's look really ugly. Oddly enough, there's a few really nice level one designs in here. |

I like this book. I think its one of the best of the bunch. Vehicles are in here, as well as new mech designs for both clan and IS. Theres even the new IS Omnimechs. Some are more 'proof of ability' than anything else, but theres one or two that are vicious bastards. A good book, and worth the price. |
