Description: Over 250 years ago, Aleksandr Kerensky, Protector-General of the Star League, left known space. With him he took almost half the MechWarriors, BattleMechs, and support personnel in the Inner Sphere. For 250 years, the Successor States have battled for supremacy. Technology has eroded, with both manufacturing capabilities and knowledge lost on the battlefields. Now the heirs to Kerensky's warrior spirit are returning, and they have suffered no loff of military technology. Instead, they have honed their weapons to a keener edge since their departure, and the objective of these warrior clans is nothing less than domination of the Inner Sphere!

The BattleTech Technical Readout: 3050 details all the new, state-of-the-art BattleMechs, both the improved Inner Sphere 'Mechs and those used by the Clans. Also included are construction rules for building new 'Mechs using the awesome new weapons, armor, and heat sinks that are available.

Comment: Good in that it has the backstory on the Clan technology, but I disliked how they did the fluff for the IS Mechs. The updated models I could understand just the one-paragraph approach, but the newer ones, like the Wolfhound, Axman, and Mauler, should have had the full bag.
Also good in that it gave us the upgraded IS Mechs.

Comment: This TRO is a bit of a mixed bag, really. Originally great because it really introduced the Clans - their equipment, their 16 most common omni 'mechs. And what great 'mechs they are. Truly, a lot of them have never found their equals in later TROs!

However, where one has to be careful are the IS 'mechs. Sure, the original TRO includes the now-unseen 'mechs. However, the artwork is really, really poor when compared to TRO: 3025. This was the first hint that our first readout would be as good as it gets!

Also, the upgrades range from the excellent (Dervish, Zeus) to the appalling (Goliath). A lot of the designs won't ever have seen much play, but it was very much in character to face the Clans with your old 'mech with some new tech hastily slapped in!

Comment: Another manual I have had from new. I still use this one a lot even though most of the inner sphere mechs are older versions. But I like fighting this time period. All the 3050 Clan Omnis are there so you get some really cool mechs. Just imagine yourself as a Marauder Pilot thinking you are the dogs B*****ks and a Madcat comes round the corner. Lets face it everyone wants to pilot a Madcat.

Comment: Get the original and forget about the revised. The clan omnis are great, and the IS designs, while somewhat slapdash, are still solid. Worth the legwork to find and buy.

Comment: The second best of TRO's, in my opinion, TRO 3050 offers new level 2 weapons for Inner Sphere mechs and introduces the clans. Most of the clan mechs are very well done and some are indispensable, such as the Mad Cat and Masakari. The Inner Sphere designs are poor, but keep with the idea that they are basically slapped together upgrades of existing designs. Overall I would say this is a good buy. Try to get the original version if you can, as the new release is missing some of the original artwork and mechs.
