A good and usable firesupport-unit. Stay away from your opponent and don´t worry about the one or the other enemy longrange hit. For your defense you have an acceptable speed and a thick skin. The shortrange weaponry isn´t very powerful (as on many support mechs) and only able to slay some infantry. The only real drawback I see is the limited firearc of all weapons because it is a Quad.

With quad movement and heavy armor it should be able to stay on the field for a long time and far-reaching weapons are well suited for bombarding the enemy from a far. I would even try light AC and some other weapon. The Goliath should stay out of reach if possible, because it lacks the firepower to deal with well designed heavies and it's easy to flank, but aside from the lack of any serious backup weapon there is no real flaw... well, it isn't cheap and obtaining spare parts could be a nightmare.

An odd beast to be sure...the Goliath is pretty quick for an assault 'Mech, especially when one takes its quad nature into account. Armed with mostly LRMs and a PPC, the machine also ridiculously sports two machine guns.
The Goliath's speed, armor and weapons make it more suited to a long range support machine than a heavy duty assaulter. And if you are not careful when using it, the Goliath will quickly be 80 tons of scrap. Stay at range, and pick away with your weapons. You mount enough heatsinks for a fairly steady barrage, interrupted only sparringly. If someone does get close you, take the pinging shots with your MGS, but you might be better off with a charge attack or a kick.
An interesting design for sure, but much like the Scorpion, the 'Mech is still poorly designed.

Never seen in a duel, and rare in any scenario or lance. Great armor and decent long range firepower, but just does not have any real function. Crouching and level 3 sideways moving may be the only way to salvage it.
GM- I use this only in very special scenarios. Seems to really catch the PCs off guard. At that point if they get over the initial shock and surprise it dies easily, otherwise the PCs back off.

For firesupport this thing is sound, however, the backup weapons are pathetic. Swap the MGs for some med lasers at least.
The armor and speed is pretty good though.
