Overview:
Named after the prominent 5th century BC Athenian statesman and orator, the Pericles was
commissioned by the SLDF in 2698, but was soon superseeded by more technologically advanced
Battlemech designs, such as the Highlander, and was relegated to second-line regiments
within the SLDF. A small number were also sold to the private armies Houses Davion,
Steiner, and Marik. After the coup of Stefan Amaris, General Aleksandr Kerensky threw the
entire weight of the SLDF into the civil war which ensued, wherein the Pericles gave
exemplary service as a shock trooper.
Capabilities:
The Pericles was designed in accord with a Quartermaster order calling for "an assault
battlemech capable of reducing the strongest enemy positions." The success of the Pericles
on the battlefield begins with it's heavy armor and heat sink systems, giving the 'mech
extraordinary staying power in the field. An LRM-20 allows the Pericles to lay down a heavy
missile barrage before closing with the enemy, and an unprecedented three Large Lasers
provide the knock-out punch. Although the LRM system carries only a limited supply of
missiles, the remainder of the weapons system are not dependent on ammunition, making the
Pericles capable of staying in the field longer than most assault 'mechs.
Deployment:
The Pericles is a rare design today. The vast majority attached to the SLDF were either
destroyed in the civil war or disappeared with the Exodus. The Wolf's Dragoons field three
Pericles, and a few also remain in service with Houses Steiner and Marik, where they
continue to serve as shock troops on the battlefields of the Succession Wars.

For lvl 1 tech it's a beast. Lasers allow it to remain on the field long after enemy runs out of ammo, but the LRMs are just to pepper the armor of opposing mechs, not much more. Weapons placement make Pericles vulnerable to flanking, so try to enter battles with someone to cover your back.

This is ultimately a very interesting design. 3 LL on a 90 tonner is really somewhat undergunned. But to mount the HS to use them while running makes it nice.
Armour is excellent, head-mounted ML a great idea (to hopefully soak up a potentially fatal crit). The best touch is the LRM20: forget the extra punch, this is the ingredient that makes this mech much more interesting than a maxed-out uber-flashbulb! Not only does it give you pause to juggle with heat, it also requires careful ammo-management. Or you will have a wasted 11 tons.

Comment:
Very nice. Max armor is always good, and the speed is normal for a 'Mech of its weight. A good array of lasers, with the heat sinks to use them, and the LRM 20 is a good backup weapon, though a bit short on ammo. Overall, an excellent machine. Loses the half point for low ammo and the placement of the lasers. Putting one or both LT lasers in the arms would improve versatility. As is, too many 'Mechs have the speed to flank it and avoid its weapons.

Reminds me of the a Massikurai light, or a Marauder in assault form.
Its got the heat sinks, can last forever as long as its got a good pilot.
Decent ranged weapons, and enough speed to stick it out with the other assaults.
Its the kind of design every commander wants because he knows it will come back in one piece.
