Overview:
(the WarBoar made its first apeparance here
http://www.mordel.net/barandgrill.php?redirect=viewtopic&p=84309&highlight=#84309)
A challenge was put forth, and Ground Zero Salvage and Technology accepted. A fast.
inexpensive, heavy hitter was needed, and while not as light or fast as the other entries,
GZT feels that the War Boar could fill the need nicely.
Capabilities:
The War Boar is 55 tons of pain.It has better than average speed, and a knock out punch in
the arm mounted Autocannon/20. The cannon is mounted in such a fashion to give it the
greatest field of fire possible, thus the mech has no right arm hand actuator or lower arm
actuator. Three medium lasers back the cannon up. There seeme to only be two main detractors
for the design though. The 11 heatsinks and 8 tons of standard armor have been cited by test
pilots to be inadequate to meet the needs of the mech or the pilot. The designers response
was basically" But the gun! Look at the big freakin gun!" Despite this discouraging
response, the designers have actullay taken the WarBoar and are looking at ways to increase
protection with out taking too large a hit to firepower.
Deployment:
No WarBoars have been deployed with units outsideof Stonkin Mechs Inc at this time.
Variants:
The only variant proposed at this time was to replace the11 standard heatsinks with10
double, using the space savings to install CASE for the ammo in the right torso. This
version also trades out the standard armor for a Ferro weave variant to increase protection.
A small laser is mounted under the cockpit as well. This does raise the cost of the machine,
though.

Unfortunately (as I already found out) you need to be able to flip both arms to use the rule, so the AC can only use the standard arm firing arc. Otherwise the WarBoar is fine, if lacking in reach. The armour is okay with me, but It would still do better to use cover and ambushes to get in range, because the speed is still not that exceptional to offer protection or to allow the 'Mech to get in range before it suffers heavy damage. Be careful with heat management, being slowed down may hamper your ability to deal damage if the enemy is able to get out of reach.

Nice. On of the interesting items of TRO325. No AC20 Mech can move more than 4/6/4. Do you know you can drop the ML and SL from the HBK and make it do 5/8. That is the beauty of this machine. Get close before you get blasted.
Armor is a little light. With the AC on the arm it can get knocked out early. For flavor drop one ML out of the gate, more heat but the ML are finishing weapons, or o crap I am out of ammo.
Fluff it up a little more and this would be great. More based on feel and perception. Use actual descriptors of the weapons, like a Kallon AC or Star Slab armor.

A decent level 1 Mech for the 3025 era. The only problem I see with the design is the lack of ammunition for the AC-20. 10 rounds just is not enough--I would suggest dropping one medium laser for an additional ton of ammo.

Although this mech has several problems (notably short range, high heat, and light armor) none of them are insurmountable on a Lvl 1battlefield. The increased speed (and better firing arcs) over the Hunchback mean that this mech can operate in more open terrain, and it can get the drop on slower designs. Used aggressively, this design would be a brutal opponent.
