Overview:
The DBL-1A Diablo was one of the major seperatist 'Mechs of the Uprising. Fast, extremely
mobile, well armored, and mounting the largest weapon that the Concordat was capable of
producing, this design frustrated the Star League Defense Force until they departed the
Periphery following the Amaris Coup. First entering service in 2752--though the Concordat
would not acknowledge it was the source of production until 2790--, the Diablo remains a
vital part of the TDF to this day.
Capabilities:
Taurus Territorial Industries sought to make a 'Mech capable of going toe-to-toe with the
Hunchback fielded by the SLDF. In a daring move, they decided upon a 55-ton Concord Type
XLV chassis, powered by the same 275 fusion engine used by the Griffin--a design they had
stolen from the Star League. TTI provided eight-and-a-half tons of ArmorWorks Carbide
Standard Composite armor--they same level of protection on Star League Griffins, Wolverines,
and Shadow Hawks. Though not the maximum amount of armor available for the chassis, this
provided the Diablo with a good level of protection. Five jump jets gave the design an
impressive 150 meter jump capacity. The arnament however was what most impressed the
MechWarriors of the TDF--and frightened SLDF troops facing the 'Mech. A single Hyades
Weapons Consortium Ravager class 20 autocannon was placed in the right arm, while three tons
of ammunition--15 bursts--was stored in a magazine in the right torso. The Diablo's right
arm was a wonder of Concordat design. Capable of moving through a 240-degree arc, the arm
mounted autocannon could target objects behind the 'Mech, as well as to the right and in
front. No secondary weapon systems were mounted.
Deployment:
Considered a close-combat specialist, the Diablo is not a common 'Mech in the TDF, though it
does remain in production to this day. Emphasizing fast strike operations, the Diablo
excells at raids and reprisals, though it does need a constant source of resupply.
Currently, every 'Mech regiment in the TDF has one or more Diablo's assigned to it. Unlike
most Taurian 'Mechs, the Diablo has never been approved for export.
Variants:
There are no known variants of the DBL-1A Diablo.
Notable MechWarriors:
Cornet Khalid Ali claims to be a direct descendant of the legendary boxer Mohammed Ali.
Piloting his DBL-1A Diablo ('Butteryfly') he serves the Taurian Defense Force as a member fo
the Hyades Light Infantry. One of the top-ranked boxers within the TDF himself, Khalid
admires the agility of his 'Mech, and has perfected using the rope-a-dope while piloting his
'Mech on the field of battle. Khalid claims his unorthodox style of combat confuses his
opponents, allowing him quick and easy victories. The massive class 20 Ravager autocannon
his 'Mech is armed with might also have something to do with that claim. However, on at
least one occassion, while fighting a Davion Crusader who had exhausted his ammunition, he
did offer the enemy pilot a boxing match--in their 'Mechs--to determine who would win or
lose. The Davion accepted, and lost the match as the lighter, more agile 'Butterfly' danced
around him and landed blow after blow, eventually destroying the Crusader's gyro.

The Diablo is truly a wonderful creation. Well fluffed, having a clear purpose and lacking any artificial weaknesses (yes, these things do exist). It may lack backup weapons, but I think that the only real weakness is really the moderate armour, but it could be much worse. Heat management is quite forgiving, mobility above average for these technological limitations and weapon system... great thing to have around.

And yet again I am amazed at seeing such a simple yet amazing design. I can just imagine a lance of these babies in an urban environment.
I have always had a soft spot for the hunchback with it's one big gun. I like how the gun is able to flip. That coupled with it's jump provides an amazing arc of fire in an urban setting.
I do like how well the fluff goes with this as well. All in all an impressive job.

I like it quite a bit - the love-childe of the Classic 55 Trio and a Hunchback. A possible suggestion: this one just cries out for imbalanced arm armour à la War Dog. LA - 10, RA - 18 The fluff text was simply amazing and the main reason why I think a "4" is almost not enough!

I have to admit, I kind of like it. Interesting aproach to the medium mech AC/20 idea. Would make a challenging opponent for Ground Zero's WarBoar.
