Overview:
    Originally intended to be an Omnimech in the early days of Inner Sphere development of the
    tech, the Heron was sidelined when Federated Commonwealth planners decided that it lacked
    the tonnage and space to make the technology worthwhile. The design eventually saw life as a
    standard Battlemech with an emphasis on combining speed and a heavy punch for its size. The
    name came from an early emphasis on countering Clan Elementals, since to quote the designer,
    "Herons eat toads."

Capabilities:
    The Heron is designed to get in, hit hard, and escape. With a perfect heat profile, the two
    ER medium lasers and four ER small lasers can keep up a withering barrage without stopping.
    
    The Heron is as durable as possible given its size, with a standard engine and maximized
    Ferro Fibrous armor. However, its real defense is impressive speed, with a maximum speed of
    130 kph being enhanced in short bursts by a MASC.

Deployment:
    This relatively inexpensive mech is a common site in mercenary companies of some means in
    Lyran space, as well as with various planetary militias.

Variants:
    A Blake Jihad era variant, the HRN-5, swapped out the existing loadout for a Light PPC in
    the right arm and an ER Medium Laser in the left. This variant was designed to be paired
    with the base model to provide long range covering fire, though at the expense of the mech's
    Battle Armor hunting capability.
