Overview:
Following inner sphere tank developments, the TDF deemed it necessary to bolster its own
armour regiments with a new armoured vehicle to supplement its forces and phase out dated
designs. To accommodate this, the TDF requested a heavy tank, 60-70 tonnes, with multirole
capability and high battlefield endurance, while retaining reasonable cost of production and
acquisition. Vandenburg Mechanised Industries delivered, winning the contract with the Bison
BSN-1.
Capabilities:
The BSN-1 is slower than many comparable vehicles, but is well equipped for defence and
assault, being armed with a mixed ammo-energy loadout, granting high versatility, and can
still provide support even after its ammo reliant weapons run dry. Its main calibre is an
Imperator Code Red LB 10-X autocannon in the turret, with 1 tonne each slug and cluster
ammunition for engaging a variety of targets. For use at long range, and in fire support, an
LRM 10 is mounted with 2 tonnes of ammunition. A large laser is also positioned in the
turret for long to medium range combat, and to ensure the Bison keeps its horns even after
the main calibre runs dry. Finally, it mounts 2 small lasers in the hull for close range and
anti-infantry purposes. The Bison is powered by a new domestic Regent 195 rated fusion
engine, derived from the Magna 260 produced by Taurus Territorial Industries, that propels
speeds too slow for moving in larger formations, but fast enough for defensive capability
and Assault formations, and is well protected by 14.5 tonnes of Durallex medium
ferro-fibrous armour.
Deployment:
The Bison is deployed as per Taurian combined arms tactics, in slower heavy tank maniples to
support and supplement the advance of infantry platoons and Battlemech lances. Additionally,
with all its larger armament being mounted in the turret, it is effective in hull down
positions for point and operational defence.
Notable MechWarriors:
Bison BSN-1TE 'Raging Bull'
Utilised by Cornet Sebastian Threll and his crew, Maniple leader in the Taurian
Expeditionary's 2nd Battlemech Battalion's Armoured Auxiliary Company. The Raging Bull has
been refitted in the field, removing the large laser and adding 2 Medium Pulse Lasers and an
extra tonne of armour for improved medium to close range combat.
