Overview:
The original BSN-1 used a newly developed, rather expensive Regent 195 fusion engine. The
stock of these engines however became quite limited as BSN-1s were deployed, and it was not
uncommon for vehicles to be left without a replacement. To put these chassis back into
service, Vandenburg began construction of the VMI 195 ICE, a much cheaper and easier to
produce engine to fit onto these vehicles. However, the armament and armour suffered from
this heavier engine.
Capabilities:
The BSN-3's armament differs significantly from the original BSN-1. The heavier LB 10-X and
LRM 10 were replaced with a Pontiac Ultralight Light AC/5 and Delta Dart LRM-5 in the
turret. The large laser in the turret is retained for battlefield endurance, once
ammo-dependant weapons run dry, but one of the two Magna Small Lasers in the hull has been
removed. The BSN-3 has the same combat speed as the BSN-1, and as such cannot keep up with
standard mech or vehicle lances, but is sufficient for assault formations and defensive
tactics. The BSN-3, though having less armour than the first model, is still protected by a
respectable 13 tonnes of Durallex Medium Ferro-Fibrous armour.
Deployment:
The Bison is deployed as per Taurian combined arms tactics, in slower heavy tank maniples to
support and supplement the advance of infantry platoons and Battlemech lances. Additionally,
with all its larger armament being mounted in the turret, it is effective in hull down
positions for point and operational defence.
