Overview:
(RPG game build) The Gaia was devised by the Arano Coalition, after reverse engineering the
Atlas MKII that High Lady Arano acquired from an SLDF bunker on Artru. She brought it to an
abandoned SLDF facility, that was slated for destruction, and has records within saying it
would be destroyed, but once Exodus orders were sent out by Aleksandr Kerensky, the one
responsible for the destruction of the facility found himself unable to commit. He found thr
cancer he was suffering from had the last laugh, and he died before he could execute the
destruction, although record show it was destroyed. After finding this facility, High Lady
Arano commissioned the dissection of her Atlas II, in order to reverse engineer the
technology it possessed for their own record. They then used the research center, expanding
it, and creating a research center and factory from it, using resources from the recently
acquired Taurian worlds. Dubbing it the ?Gaia?, it was built on the back of the Atlas, and
was idealized as an Arano specific mech, to be used as a showcase of power, and built on a
frame akin to the Atlas. It?s skull face, is replaced with a ?helmet? based cockpit, more
akin to the Black knight. While possessing a similar large, wide, and intimidating body.
Kamea Arano intends to use this mech to usher in the new age for her Coalition. Long live
the Reach!
Capabilities:
The Gaia is designed to be a mix-range mech. Heavily utilizing its long range weaponry as it
slowly approaches. LRM?s for indirect missile fire, with ER large lasers and a Gauss rifle
for punishing direct fire. While the mech runs incredibly hot when using its full compliment
of weapons, it is intended to base its weapons fire on range brackets, rather than a full
power alpha strike. The XL engine provides a vulnerability, but its weakness provides the
strength to allow the Gaia to mount a much heavier arsenal of weaponry, along with double
heat sinks. In fear of back attacks?lady Kamea requested dual, rear facing, small lasers to
ward away light mechs attempting to attack from behind. However, some advisors in her
cabinet recommended she instead reverse the medium lasers, opposed to the small lasers,
similar to the Atlas. Operating to ?crack the shell? of heavy enemy mechs, this mech will
only be placed in the hands of the Coalition?s most veteran pilots. Potentially limiting its
battlefield deployment, and experience on the platform.
Deployment:
The Gaia has only had a single official deployment, as of this report. It was used in the
battle of MacLeod's Land. The Aurigan Coalition?s unfettered aggressive assault into a
distracted Taurian Concordat allowed for them to reach MacLeod's Land system. This assault,
initially was failing. Taurian fortifications on this world are great, even with units being
peeled away to deal with the Federated Suns invasion. But without a reliable, steady stream
of heavy firepower, the Coalition was doomed to fail in their assault of MacLeod's Land.
With no other options available, Kamea Arano ordered the deployment of the Coalitions first
mass produced, native Assault mech. The Gaia. Sending a few pilots from her Royal Guard,
along with her most veteran pilots of ACM second company. The Gaia was tasked with assisting
the medium and heavy mechs attempting to break the defensive line of the Taurians. With
LRM?s and Gauss rifle shots, the Gaia made its presence known, quickly ripping open the
armor of the defensive line, allowing the medium mechs to score consistent critical strikes
to internals of the units. Breaking the the defensive line, the Coalition heavy mechs
pushed forward, striking at the defenses of the fortress, with medium mechs pushing on their
flanks, and the Gaia, stalwart, and punishing any vulnerability spotted. The Gaia was
responsible for creating a large enough hole in the fortress walls, allowing the advance of
the forward units. The Coalition took for the fortress, and used the Gaia mechs to hunker
down for a heavy defense. And repelling 3 Taurian assaults to retake the fortress, holding
it firm, and crippling the Taurian?s in their fight against the Federated Suns. Without the
Gaia, the assault of MacLeod's Land would have ended in failure.
Variants:
With the new construction of the Gaia, there are no known variants of this mech. There are
suggestions to improve the design, however, with resources being shifted into the Aurigan
Coalition?s ?ruthless assault? production, no resources are being put into research for new
variants at this time. Preferring to secure the design, with backups on other worlds in the
Coalition, and multiple factories being partially tooled to manufacture more of the Gaia
GA1-A1.
Notable MechWarriors:
The most notable Mechwarrior to have piloted the Gaia thus far, is Colonel Marie Maoa. She
scored 7 confirmed kills, with four of those being taurian heavy mechs, and three of them
being tanks. She is also credited with being the one to shoot down the wall of the fortress
on MacLeod?s land. Her incredible success in the first deployment of the Gaia, has led her
to being a trainer on others in how to pilot the Aurigan Coalition exclusive mech.
