Overview:
    Designed on Terra in 2774 during the Usurper's reign, the sixty-ton Chernobog was both a
    capable mobile fire support unit and an infantry killer at close range. It was one of four
    new designs intended to become signature units for the Amaris Dragoons.
    
    Named for the Slavic god of evil, the Chernobog was designed with a Vlar 300 extralight
    engine and Star League Endosteel internal structure, which lightened the overall structure
    greatly. The long range damage came from a Blankenburg Technologies 200 extended-range PPC
    and a Doombud 15-tube long-range missile rack, divided between the arms. For short-range
    work, the Chernobog kept to the Amaris standard of machine guns and inferno short range
    missiles, preferring to terrorize infantry and cook unsuspecting opponents. The armor was
    maximized, CASE added to the ammo bays, and then a Guardian ECM suite was installed to
    further protect the 'Mech. Four jump jets, along with a top speed of 86 kilometers per hour,
    ensured that the Chernobog would not easily be pinned down.
    
    Most interesting was the addition of a Chameleon Light Polarization Shield. This was half of
    the SLDF's prized BattleMech stealth system, and was intended to be used with the
    Null-Signature system. The Chernobog simply lacked the space for the second system, and this
    reduced its stealth characteristics. It couldn't be easily picked out with the naked eye at
    a distance, or even at medium ranges on a smoking battlefield, but standard BattleMech
    sensors could still target the Chernobog, with reduced accuracy.
    
    As development neared completion, several prototypes were manufactured for testing with the
    Amaris Dragoon regiments. While reports were generally favorable, the development team
    eventually set the expensive design aside in favor of the heavier Dragoon multirole
    BattleMech. Construction plans were sent around the major Hegemony manufacturers, but as no
    budget had been allocated for production, the design wasn't taken up. After the war ended,
    the Chernobog itself was considered by most Terran BattleMech manufacturers to be a taboo
    subject, and like the other Amaris designs (Jackrabbit, Dragoon, and Matar) the Chernobog
    quickly fell into obscurity.

Capabilities:
    The CHR-N1 Chernobog was a hot-running BattleMech. Given its ten double heat sinks, it was
    able to fire its long-range weapons if it stood still, or all weapons but the extended-range
    particle cannon. This capability was further reduced if the Chameleon LPS system was
    engaged. As the Chameleon system degraded visual acquisition of the Chernobog at long
    ranges, designers recommended alternating the long-range weapons until the LRM ammo racks
    ran dry.
    
    Urban combat was where the Chernobog fulfilled its design parameters perfectly. Making use
    of the Chameleon system in towns and cities, the Chernobog could decimate enemy infantry
    formations with its machine guns and short-range missiles, making use of inferno ammunition
    as a terror weapon while strolling ghost-like through their defenses.

Deployment:
    Only six prototypes were ever manufactured, and the semi-stealthy Chernobog was kept within
    the ranks of those Amaris Dragoon regiments stationed on Terra itself. Testing was completed
    by 2776, but production never commenced. As it was assumed no prototypes survived the
    massive SLDF assault on Terra, no further deployment details survived that time. It is
    noteworthy that the SLDF troops did not report destroying a Chernobog in combat.

Variants:
    No variant designs of the Chernobog are known to exist.
